As part of a doctoral research project, Kate Mukungu carried out 10 life history interviews with activists from NI that have taken a stance on VAWG – violence against women and girls.
These 2016 interviews were part of a study across two sites, Namibia and Northern Ireland, which sought to understand how women activists develop relations across division in post-conflict societies.
Now the study is concluded, Kate will deliver a feedback session on three key themes that emerged in the study. These are:
the lingering challenges of addressing gendered violence by conflict actors within communities
the immediate and long-term benefits of women of different ages carrying out activism together
the power of solidarity in activism relationships and the strategies women use to keep activism progressing when solidarity is under strain
